Police Captain Justin Wyatt is assigned as the Operations Commander and is responsible for the day-to-day function of the police department. Patrol is divided into four shifts, each supervised by a Sergeant, who is the watch commander when on duty. Twenty-two sworn personnel are assigned to the uniform patrol division. When fully staffed each shift is authorized a strength of four to five uniformed officers including the Sergeant. The priority of the patrol division is community response to calls for service and pro-active law enforcement. Specialty assignments are made within the ranks of patrol that include Field Training Officer, Traffic Officer, SWAT and Cadet Program Manager.
The Patrol Division is the initial responder to all calls for service within the City limits of Ukiah. These calls include reported crimes of all nature, suspicious persons, business or residential checks, narcotics enforcement, citizen complaints and enforcement of state and local laws and ordinances.
Patrol officers may conduct the initial investigation of any crime. Patrol officers investigate deaths, accidents, make arrests, issue criminal and traffic citations and transport prisoners.
