Ukiah Walks

Ukiah Walks outlines four walking routes, all of which originate at the Alex Thomas Plaza in downtown Ukiah. The routes are designed for people who want to walk for exercise. They average 2.5 miles, have no steep hills, and pass drinking fountains and benches. Combining any two of the routes will allow the walker to obtain the 10,000 steps that the Center for Disease Control recommends as the minimum amount of exercise an adult should get 5-6 times a week. The routes are not ADA compliant.

Grace Hudson Museum

Grace Hudson MuseumThe Grace Hudson Museum is an art, history, and anthropology museum focusing on the lifework of Grace Carpenter Hudson, Dr. John W. Hudson, and other members of a distinguished local family. Permanent and changing exhibits tell stories of the native Pomoan-speaking peoples, the white settlement of central Mendocino County, the artistic career of Grace Hudson, and the long professional collaboration she enjoyed with her ethnologist husband, John Hudson.

The archival holdings of the diverse family collection offer opportunities to research the specific experience of the Hudson-Carpenter family in turn of the century Northern California.

Grace and John Hudson built their Craftsman bungalow home, The Sun House, on a large lot in central Ukiah in 1911, the twenty-first year of their marriage. Most of that property is preserved today by the City of Ukiah as a memorial to the Hudson-Carpenter family. The six-room Sun House retains the flavor of the Hudson's bohemian lifestyle, furnished with items from the eclectic collection.

The Sun House is California Historical Landmark No. 926, and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. For current information about exihibits, the store, or to book a tour please visit their website: www.gracehudsonmuseum.org
